Cameroon Too Little To Stop Us – Super Falcons
Tuesday’s heroine in the African Women Nations Cup semi-final match between the Super Falcons and the Banyana Banyana of South Africa, Desire Oparanozie, says hosts Cameroon cannot be a threat to the seven-time champions in the final of the competition on Saturday.
Although she has predicted a tough encounter against the Indomitable Lionesses, the striker urged Nigerians not to lose sleep over the encounter as the team is focused to lift the trophy for a record eight time.
“The match against South Africa was not easy as it could have gone either way. You saw how tensed the match was, it showed that there are no more pushovers in the sport in Africa. But we have to thank God that the game ended in our favour.
“Everyone is now talking about the final match against Cameroon and how tough it will be. But in my own estimation, we have played our toughest match and it was against South Africa.
“I am not trying to write off Cameroon as there will be a lot of factors in their favour as the host country, coupled with their physical play. But those things can’t deter us, as we are bent on giving Nigerian soccer fans a resounding Christmas gift to celebrate,” she concluded.
Saturday’s finals will be the second time both teams will meet in the AWCON final match. The first time they met was in Namibia in 2014, and the Super Falcons were the better team, winning 2-0 to grab the cup for a record 7th time.
