CRIME WATCH: Assembly Urges Ambode To Beef Up Security
The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to beef up security in the state and stop the growing cases of kidnapping, especially in the Ikorodu and Epe areas.
The Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, representing Ikorodu Constituency I, raised the matter on Monday at the plenary.
Agunbiade said, “Despite the commitment of successive administrations of Lagos State to the issues of security over the years and with the huge investment in security equipment and logistics, there have been renewed efforts by men of the underworld in kidnapping, particularly in the Epe area, through the waterways.”
He said intensive security measures should be employed by security agencies for peace to return to the affected communities.
Another lawmaker, Tunde Braimoh, noted that security challenge was not peculiar to Lagos State, adding that it required a continuous monitoring.
He advised that the government should have a discussion with the Commissioner of Police and the Inspector-General of Police for deployment of more policemen to the state.
The House subsequently resolved to call on Ambode to take all steps at involving the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Navy to checkmate kidnapping. They also said the governor should ensure the prosecution of those arrested for gang wars in the state.
