Fire Razes Saraki Market, Ilorin
There were uncontrollable tears after Saraki market in Ilorin, Kwara state was engulfed in fire.
Vanguard reports that the fire happened on Wednesday, October 4 at the market located at lta-Ama in llorin West local government area.
The fire started in the morning and spread on till afternoon.
It was reported that more than 60 shops were arrested with the valuables in the shops burnt to the ground. Also food items like rice and beans were also destroyed.
Malam Mohammed Kazeem who is the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service said the fire could have been as a result of a spark when electricity was restored at the market.
He noted that it was the combined effort of the fire service and concerned residents that helped put out the fire. Some of the traders cried that they had lost all they had in the fire and called on the state to come to their aid.
Alhaji Tajudeen Zulu-Oloje who is the chairman of the local government expressed sadness at what he described as an unfortunate incident. He said relief would be provided with the available resources.
