SHOCKER: Niger Delta Elders, Leaders Pursuing Selfish Desire – MASSOB
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has carpeted leaders and elders of the Niger Delta region, alleging that they are working in concert with some Northerners to further impoverish the people of the region for their own selfish interest.
The leader of the group, Solomon Chukwu, who spoke to journalists in Owerri through the group’s Director of Information, Sunday Okereafor, also chided the leaders of the region “for sabotaging their people through their recent visit to Abuja for a 16-point agenda, including the granting of oil blocks.”
He argued that agitation for oil blocks in place of freedom and fundamental human rights of the people was nothing but misplacement of priority.
He urged the youth in the region to rise up in defence of their rights and freedom from “the suffocating claws of the Northern caliphate,” whilst dismissing the Federal Government’s recent promise to clean up Ogoniland and reconstruct the devastated Niger Delta region as a wild goose chase.
The group said it was ridiculous and ironical for the Federal Government to now profess its intention to remedy the decay in the region amidst the biting recession when it did not do so when the economy was robust and buoyant.
The group also described the “No Victory and No Vanquished Policy” as well as the Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction enunciated by the General Yakubu Gowon (retd.) administration as “a ruse deceitfully contrived to deepen the underdevelopment of Niger Delta region.”
“MASSOB is therefore telling the whole world that the leaders of South-East and South-South are selfish and therefore cannot lead us,” it said.
